Importing and Exporting

GMare allows various ways to import and export rooms. GMare can import a room by creating a room from an image file. GMare can also export if the following ways; image file, binary file, or Game Maker project file. (Version 5 to 8.1) To export your project click File and then Import From... or Export To.... From there, choose one of the options.

  • Import From Image File - GMare supports creating a room from an image file. (.bmp, .gif, .png) Details here.
  • Export To Image File - You can export your room to an image file. (.png) You can also select which layers to export. Details here.
  • Export To Binary File - You can export your room to a custom binary file. (.bin) Many rooms can be exported to one file. Details here.
  • Export To GM Project File - Export directly to any supported Game Maker project (versions 5 - 8.1). Details here.

Note: GMare does not support importing rooms directly from a Game Maker project file ironically, as the tile data is different between the two, and currently GMare only supports one background for a room. Game Maker also allows overlapping of tiles on the same layer, GMare does not. Multiple backgrounds and importing Game Maker project file rooms will be supported in the future however.

Note: GMare does not support exporting to Game Maker Studio at this time, this too will be supported in a future release.
